Meeting Cau Chuong in Hoi An

While we were in Hoi An, Hong Anh received a call from Uncle Chuong who is a retired teacher in Hue who now works as tour guide for French and American groups. He was staying in Hoi An with a group and called us from there. We went out for dinner and had a delightful time at a brick oven pizza restaurant along the riverfront in downtown Hoi An. He chose to become a tour guide mostly because he was bored and sad after retiring from teaching and says he really likes the work as he can set his schedule when he likes. He is about 68 I think. He says when he is too old to lead tour groups, he plans to do more painting.

On Sunday morning, we walked around the old town some more. Hong Anh snapped this shot of me and Scuppy on a step waiting while she looked at cloth. The name "Hoi" in Hoi An refers to trade associations or guilds that set up shops here back in the 1600's when the place was a booming trade center for silk. Notice the fan in Scuppy's hand, and I don't think you can notice our sweat or Scuppy's chocolate ice cream mouth. We'd just finished sharing a chocolate ice cream cone and fanning ourselves when Hong Anh snapped this.
